"as the modern age ends and the new age is being born, homo sapiens-the two-legged-must learn learn to evolve so as to survive. the law of evolution-adapt or die-will move to a new stage. people must adapt spiritually, not physically. the great challenge to save the planet cannot be met without the soul power of the spirit"
pretty sure this is from "mother earth spirituality, native american paths to healing ourselves and our world" by ed mcgaa, eagle man
i often think of things in terms of being physical and metaphysical or spiritual at the same time...like every action has a reaction, the action could be physical and the reaction emotional, or spiritual...or the action could be spiritual or emotional and the reaction can occur physically. the two worlds are not just closely connected but interconnected. energy goes in one way, and must come out another way...and energy, life, is what flows through both planes. they also seem to act by the same principles...and i strongly believe that just as the physical world can change and evolve so can our spiritual consciousness. one of my favorite quotes by madeleine l'engle: " i do not think that i will ever reach a stage when I will say, 'this is what i believe. finished.' what I believe is alive...and open to growth" illustrates my point. what we believe is alive and open to growth. our spirituality exists as a force. its a working mechanic in our universe....we might not all be able to see the spiritual world, touch it, or forcibly manipulate it, but in some ways it is tangible and certainly plays more of role in life than some people who only graze its surface care to acknowledge. as our psychical evolution slows so our spiritual evolution will take over. they say change is the only constant in the universe and i don't think its about to sit by and let the fact that the human species has reached a biological pinnacle stop that.
by the way, i am optimistic that this spiritual evolution will not cause our extinction..it may be scary to see such a shift in the inner workings of our universe (which i'm sure have inner workings too) but its scientific really. definable. you could make diagrams and outlines and take notes on spiritual evolution in the same way scientists have mapped out evolution throughout the past centuries. there will still be change, there will still be something by which the change is motivated, a natural selection. in natural selection three things are needed, variables, and heritability (variation in genes), and the fact that these genes will affect the outcome of an individual's offspring. it is like a chain, first random, then lawful, one link leads to the other. in spiritual evolution there are many variables, every person is the keeper of their own beliefs, although we are all connected we also stand apart as individuals, autonomous. in spiritual evolution there is heritage, culture, emotional bonds, links like dna that connect us. and in spiritual evolution there is a law, a system, a way energy is moved to and from, back and forth, in and out. karma.
